If you have irritable bowel syndrome, your healthcare provider may prescribe Bentyl® (dicyclomine hydrochloride) to help relieve the painful spasms associated with the condition. The drug works by blocking certain receptors in the smooth muscles of the digestive tract. Before using Bentyl, make sure your healthcare provider knows if you have high blood pressure, glaucoma, or congestive heart failure. The medication comes in capsule, tablet, syrup, and injectable forms.
