What Foods to Avoid for IBS
There are many questions about what foods to avoid for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). However, the specific foods that may worsen IBS symptoms vary from person to person.
For many people with IBS, dairy products can be troublesome, especially ice cream and milk.
Gas-producing foods can also aggravate IBS symptoms, especially in people with intestinal gas or bloating. Some of the foods that fall under this category include:
- Beans
- Cabbage
- Brussels sprouts
- Broccoli.
Besides dairy and gas-producing foods, other foods and drinks to consider a test elimination of include:
- Wheat, rye, barley, or other products containing gluten
- Chocolate
- Alcohol
- Caffeinated drinks, such as coffee and some sodas
- Carbonated drinks
- Fatty foods.
