Drug Interactions

Lotronex may react with a number of other medications (see Lotronex Drug Interactions).

Important Information for Your Healthcare Provider

You should talk with your healthcare provider prior to taking this medication if you have:
  • Constipation, or have had severe constipation or constipation that keeps coming back
  • Had intestinal problems due to constipation, such as:
    • An obstruction (a blockage of your bowel)
    • Narrowing (stricture)
    • Tear (perforation)
    • Widening (toxic megacolon)
  • Had problems with blood flow to your intestines, such as ischemic colitis
  • Had a blood clot or blood-clotting problems
  • Had ulcerative colitis
  • Had Crohn's disease
  • Had diverticulitis
  • Liver disease, such as hepatitis or liver failure
  • Any allergies, including to foods, dyes, or preservatives.
Also, let your healthcare provider know if you:
  • Do not understand the Lotronex Medication Guide or Patient Acknowledgement Form or are not willing to follow them
  • Are pregnant or thinking of becoming pregnant (see Lotronex and Pregnancy)
  • Are breastfeeding (see Lotronex and Breastfeeding).
Make sure to tell your healthcare provider about all of the medicines you are taking, including prescription and nonprescription medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements.
