Lotronex is a drug licensed for the treatment of severe diarrhea-predominant irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) in women. This prescription medicine comes as a tablet that is taken once or twice daily. It is reserved for use in women who have had IBS symptoms for at least six months and have tried other treatments without success. Side effects include nausea, constipation, and abdominal (stomach) pain.
What Is Lotronex?
- Frequent and severe abdominal (stomach) pain and discomfort
- Frequent urgency to have a bowel movement or "accidents" involving loose stools or diarrhea (fecal incontinence)
- The condition causes disability, or disrupts daily activities at work or home.
