How Can I Get Zelnorm Despite the Recall? In order to qualify for Zelnorm for emergency treatment, individuals must have a life-threatening condition that would be treated by Zelnorm (or, at the very least, a condition serious enough to require hospitalization). Your healthcare provider must apply directly to the FDA, and the FDA can refuse for any number of reasons. Specifically, the FDA may reject a request for Zelnorm for emergency use if you have any of the following:
- A history of a heart attack or stroke
- A specific type of chest pain known as unstable angina
- High blood pressure (hypertension)
- High cholesterol
- Suicidal thinking or behavior
Also, the FDA may deny the request if you are over 55 years old or if you are a smoker.
