Zelnorm Side Effects (Cont.)

Common Zelnorm Side Effects

Zelnorm has been thoroughly studied in clinical trials, with many people having been evaluated. In these studies, side effects occurring in the group of people taking the drug are always documented and compared to the side effects that occur in a similar group of people not taking the medicine. Based on these studies, the most common Zelnorm side effects include:
 
  • Headache -- up to 15 percent of people
  • Abdominal pain (or stomach pain) -- up to 12 percent of people
  • Diarrhea -- up to 8.8 percent of people
  • Nausea (upset stomach) -- up to 8 percent of people
  • Intestinal gas -- up to 6 percent of people
  • Bloating -- up to 4 percent of people
  • Dizziness -- up to 4 percent of people.
     
Other side effects occurring in more than 1 percent of people include:
 
  • Migraine headaches
  • Accidental injuries
  • Leg pain, back pain, or joint pain
  • Vomiting
  • Trouble sleeping (insomnia)
  • Upper respiratory tract infections (infections similar to the common cold or flu)
  • Unexplained rash
  • Urinary tract infections (UTI).
     

Zelnorm Side Effects to Report

There are a number of side effects with Zelnorm that you should report to your healthcare provider. These include but are not limited to:
 
  • New or suddenly severe abdominal pain (or stomach pain)
  • Severe diarrhea or diarrhea that lasts for several days
  • Vision changes, including blurred vision or double vision
  • Bloody diarrhea or rectal bleeding
  • Lightheadedness, dizziness, or fainting
  • Signs of an allergic reaction, including unexplained skin rash, itching, hives, unexplained swelling, wheezing, or difficulty breathing or swallowing.
